This button placement is still under debate. This analysis is based on my opinion and some research on google. The results are nothing true or false. Let’s deep dive into the first explanation!

1. Microsoft and Apple have different Guidelines

Left: Microsoft | Right: Apple

Microsoft has the primary button from the left, while Apple has it on the right. That’s explained if you want to decide, right or left, follow the guidelines where you want to put your apps.

2. First look vs Continuity

Left: First Look | Right: Continuity

The primary button is on the left means a user looks at it first. Users tend to click the first thing they saw. Meanwhile, the primary button on the right means continuity. It is easier for users' hands, especially for mobile apps.

3. But what if there is a tertiary button?

Left: First | Right: Second

It depends on where you want to align your button within a form. If it is a left-aligned grouping, then use the first one and vice versa.

Left: Left-Aligned Grouping | Right: Right-Aligned Grouping

For larger screens, it is recommended to use the left-aligned grouping, since the focus of users while reading or input a form is from left to the right. And only for mobile, never puts the alignment on the left, because most of the users are right-handed.
